How to make Oreo chicks and eggs
Line your baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
For the Oreo chicks
Melt yellow candy melts in a double boiler or a microwave-safe bowl, stirring in between intervals until smooth. If using the white vanilla wafers, add a few drops of yellow food color.

Using a fork or dipping tool, coat each Oreo in melted chocolate, making sure it’s fully covered.

Let any excess drip off before placing them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
While the coating is still soft, press two black sugar pearls near the top to make the eyes. Position an orange heart in the center for the beak and place two more at the bottom for the feet.
Sprinkle a few orange jimmies on top for a little tuft of hair, then gently press a halved yellow M&M on each side to create the wings.

Allow the Oreo chicks to dry completely at room temperature or speed up the process by placing them in the fridge. Once set, they’re ready to serve!

For the Oreo Eggs
Melt white chocolate or candy melts in separate bowls, then tint each with your desired colors like pink and blue. Stir until smooth and evenly colored.

Using a fork or dipping tool, dip each Oreo into the melted chocolate, making sure it is fully coated. Let the excess drip off, then place the coated cookie onto the parchment-lined baking sheet.

Once all the Oreos are coated, let them sit for a minute or two until the surface is slightly set but still soft.
Melt a small amount of white chocolate in a piping bag, then drizzle it over the colored Oreos in a zigzag pattern. Immediately add nonpareil sprinkles on top before the drizzle sets.

Allow the Oreo eggs to set completely at room temperature or place them in the fridge to firm up faster. Once the coating is set, they’re ready to enjoy!

Set it out on a dessert table
These adorable treats pair well with other spring desserts like sugar cookies, fruit platters, or pastel cupcakes. Serve them alongside a cup of milk or a festive punch for a complete party spread.

How to Store
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
If it’s warm, keep them in the fridge to prevent the chocolate from melting.
Freeze in a single layer for up to two months and thaw at room temperature before serving.

Helpful Tips
- Use a fork or dipping tool to make coating easier.
- Work quickly when decorating so the chocolate doesn’t harden before adding details.
- If using white chocolate, add a few drops of yellow food coloring to get a bright, chick-like shade.

Chocolate Covered Oreo Chicks and Eggs
Equipment
- Double boiler or microwave-safe bowl
- Microwave-safe piping bag
- Fork (for dipping)
- Small spoon or spatula
- Kitchen scissors
Ingredients
- 24 Oreo cookies
- 20 oz vanilla melting wafers (Two 10 oz bags)
- 12 oz Yellow Candy melts
- Oil-based food coloring (yellow, pink, and blue)
- Black sugar pearl sprinkles (for eyes)
- Orange heart sprinkles (for beaks and feet)
- Orange jimmies sprinkles (for hair)
- Yellow M&M’s (halved for wings)
- Nonpareil sprinkles (for eggs)
Instructions
- Line a large baking tray with parchment paper and keep it nearby for quick use.
Make the Oreo Chicks
- Melt the yellow candy melts, using a double boiler over low heat or in the microwave in short intervals, stirring often until smooth. (If using white candy melts, once smooth, mix in yellow food coloring until you reach your desired shade.)
Dip the cookies
- Place an Oreo on a fork, dip it fully into the yellow coating, lift it out, and gently tap off the excess. Set it on the prepared tray.
- Repeat with a few cookies at a time, working quickly before the coating firms up.
Decorate the chicks
- While the coating is still soft, add two black pearls for eyes.
- Place an orange heart in the center for the beak and two more near the bottom for feet.
- Add a few orange jimmies on top for hair, then press a halved yellow M&M on each side for wings.
- Continue in batches. Repeat dipping and decorating until all chick cookies are done, stirring the melted wafers as needed to keep them smooth.
Melt and color for the Oreo eggs
- For the pink eggs, melt about a cup of white candy melts and tint with pink coloring. Dip several Oreos, let excess drip off, and place on the tray. Leave them plain for now.
- For the blue eggs, melt another cup of melts, tint blue, and repeat the dipping process with the remaining Oreos.
Decorate the Eggs
- To decorate and drizzle, melt about ½ cup of melts in a piping bag.
- Snip a small opening and drizzle over the pink and blue cookies. Immediately sprinkle with nonpareils before the drizzle sets.
Set the coating
- Refrigerate the tray for 10 to 15 minutes, or until all coatings are firm and ready to serve.
Notes
- Use oil-based coloring only because regular food coloring can cause the melting wafers to thicken or seize.
- High heat makes the coating clumpy and harder to work with. Slow melting gives a smoother finish.
- Work in small batches to keep the coating from setting before decorating is finished.
- The egg colors can be changed to match any holiday or theme.
- Try different Oreos; Classic, Golden, or flavored varieties all work well.
- Use tweezers for details. This is helpful for placing small sprinkles neatly without smudging the coating.
- Pre-colored candy melts can save time and skip the coloring step.
