How to make 4th of July Rice Krispie treats

Melt the butter, add marshmallows (reserving about half a cup) and stir till melted.
Turn off heat, stir in the vanilla extract, then add the cereal, the reserved marshmallows, sprinkles and m&ms. Stir in till combined.
Transfer the mix to a parchment paper lined baking pan. Press it into the pan till evenly flat. Press on some extra m&ms to the top if desired.
Transfer the Red, white and blue candy melts into individual piping bags. Melt each in the microwave at 30 secs intervals massaging in between intervals until fully melted. Pipe on decorative lines on the top of the cereal treat. Let it cool completely before slicing into squares.

4th of July Rice Krispie treats
Equipment
- Large pot
- 9x13 baking pan
- Parchment paper
- Piping bags
Ingredients
- 1 stick salted butter melted
- 16 ounces mini marshmallows divided
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 8 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- ¾ cup red white, and blue M&M’s
- ¼ cup red white, and blue sprinkles
- ¼ cup each red white, and blue candy melts
Instructions
- Prepare a baking tray by lining it with parchment paper and set it aside.
- In a large pot over low heat, melt the butter.
- Reserve 2 cups of mini marshmallows for later use. Add the remaining marshmallows to the pot and melt in the butter, stirring occasionally until smooth.
- Remove the pot from the heat as soon as the marshmallows are melted. Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
- Add the Rice Krispies cereal, the reserved marshmallows, sprinkles and m and ms folding everything into the melted marshmallows.
- Work quickly as the wet mixture marshmallows can cause the sprinkles' and m & m colors to bleed.
- Spread the prepared Rice Krispies mixture evenly in the baking pan, lightly pressing it down. A rubber spatula can help prevent sticking.
- Add more m and ms on top of you want to.
Decorate the treats
- Transfer the Red, white and blue candy melts into individual piping bags.
- Melt each in the microwave at 30 secs intervals massaging in between intervals until fully melted.
- Snip off the tip of the piping bags. Pipe decorative lines on the top of the cereal treat.
- Allow the treats to cool for 30 to 45 mins then cut into squares before serving.
Notes
- You can skip the decorating lines if you prefer
- I used salted butter. If you use unsalted butter, add ⅛ teaspoon salt when adding the vanilla extract.
