Wash and peel potatoes. Then cut potatoes into cubes.
Place potato cubes in water and add salt. Bring to boil. Once the water comes to a boil, cook the potatoes for another 15 to 20 minutes or until they are tender.
Drain the potatoes . Add butter and pour in hot milk (start with 2 tablespoons)..
Mash potatoes till smooth. As you mashed potatoes, add remaining milk to achieve the desired mashed potato consistency if needed. Puree the potatoes until they are as smooth as possible without any lumps.
Serve mashed potatoes with chives, butter or Parmesan
