These 4th of July Oreos or chocolate covered Oreos is an easy no bake dessert that you can serve to family and friend on any patriotic day celebration such as Independence Day or Memorial day.
First, line baking trays with parchment paper and set them aside.
Transfer each color of candy melts into separate microwave safe bowls. Reserve about ¼ cup of the white colored candy melts to be melted later for the drizzle.
Melt each color of candy melts in the microwave at 15 secs intervals on 40 to 50% power stirring between intervals until it’s fully melted.
For the blue Oreos with white nonpareils
Dip an Oreo cookie into the blue melts using a fork or candy dipping tool till it’s fully submerged. Lift it out and tap to remove excess chocolate coating.
Place the coated cookie on the prepared baking tray and sprinkle some white nonpareils on top immediately.
Repeat the process for the rest of the l Oreo cookies in this color category (in this case 11 cookies) and then set aside in the counter to set or refrigerate in the tray if for a quicker setting time.
For the red Oreos with white stripes
Melt the red candy melts on 40% to 50% power in a microwave-safe bowl at 15 secs intervals, stirring between intervals until smooth.
Dip an Oreo cookie one at a time fully into the red melts using a fork, tap to remove excess coating, and place it on the prepared baking tray 2 to 3 inches apart.
Continue till all the cookies in the batch reserved for the red coating has been exhausted.
Melt the reserved ¼ cup of white melting wafers in a small piping bag using the microwave on a low setting at 15 secs intervals.
When it’s fully melted, Snip a small piece of the bag’s tip and drizzle lines over the red-coated Oreos.
Refrigerate the tray of Oreos for the coating to set.
For the white Oreos with red, white, and blue nonpareils
Dip one Oreo cookie at a time fully into the white melts using a fork, tap to remove excess coating, and place it on the prepared baking tray.
Top the coated cookie with red, white, and blue nonpareils as soon as you placed them in the tray.
Repeat until all cookies reserved for the white coating has been exhausted.
You can keep the prepared Oreos in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve them.
Notes
You can use a double boiler to melt the chocolate instead of the microwave.
If you find that the melted chocolate is too thick for dipping, add some vegetable shortening to it about ½ teaspoon at a time stirring in between until you achieve your desired consistency.
Leave at least 2 inches between the coated cookies on the tray.
